Jungian approach

Carl Jung was a contemporary of Sigmund Freud a psychiatrist from early last century. Jung was born 26 July 1875 in Kesswil, Switzerland. He was a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst.

He differed from Freud in that he saw that there existed a collective unconscious from which emerged a rich stock of collective and archetypal imagery.

Jung explored dreams, and complexes, and archetypes. He was seen as somewhat of a mystic and thus different from his psychiatrist colleagues.

My work is steeped in a Jungian perspective. I’ve had five years of personal Jungian analysis. I completed a year long course in the classical Jungian approach. I am schooled in Jungian sandplay therapy. I was on the Committee of the Queensland Jung Society 2015-16, and am now moving towards membership with the Jungian ISST.

Therapy based on a Jungian perspective is open to exploring dreams, complexes, myths and the archetypes that move throughout our lives. Transpersonal work covers the area of moving between/ beyond the mask we show to the world. It has been described as pursuit of the authentic self. I also see transpersonal work as having overlays with narrative therapy; exploring the stories we make of our lives.

“The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances: if there is any reaction, both are transformed.” – Jung (Modern Man in Search of a Soul, p. 49)

“Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.” - Jung (C.G. Jung Letters, Vol. 1: 1906-1950, p. 33)
